10k-a-Day 2023

Salida Parks and Recreation 10k-a-Day 2023

The City of Salida Parks and Recreation Department in cooperation with Chaffee County has put on the 10k-a-day step challenge for many years for city and county employees to stay healthy and fit. This year we are also encouraging the public to participate in the 10k-a-Day as an encouragement for any Salidan to stay healthy and fit. We hope you will participate and look forward to seeing how many steps we can accumulate together!

Enter your steps by following the links below

Click on the links above to enter your step for the appropriate dates. If you average more than 10,000 steps per day for that week and submit your steps by the following Monday by midnight, you'll receive an extra bonus entry into the end-of-challenge drawing! For example, if you submit your steps for week 1 (May 1 - May 7) by the end of May 8, you will get an extra entry!

Please use the above templates if possible. If that doesn't work, use this paper copy, fill it out and scan or take a photo of it and send it back to SalidaRaces@cityofsalida.com.

All steps must be submitted by TUESDAY, May 30th midnight (because Monday, May 29 is a holiday!) to be entered into the challenge drawing and to be eligible to win!

What is the 10k-a-day?

The 10k-a-day is a challenge for people to take 10,000 steps every day for a month.

When is the 10k-a-day competition happening?

The 10k-a-day competition will start on May 1 and finish on May 28.

How do I keep track of my steps?

  • Do you have a smartphone? Download one of the many pedometer apps and your smartphone will track your steps for you! iPhones have a pedometer built-in under their Health App.
  • Smartwatches are also a great way of tracking your steps.
  • Do you need a pedometer? Please contact Ryan at SalidaRaces@cityofsalida.com and he’ll help you arrange to pick up a pedometer before May 2nd.

What if I'm doing other activities that don't track steps?

Check out the document that is attached below labeled "Convert activities to steps". You can use this document to convert the activities you do into steps! Make sure that you collect some sort of proof for the activity though! A photo of your participating in the activity, a GPS record, or other proof will be accepted. You will only need to present your proof to claim your prize if you win the challenge or a drawing.

How do I enter my steps in the competition?

Go to cityofsalida.com and under the “Parks and Recreation” tab select “Recreation” and go to the “10k-a-day 2023” link to enter your steps. You can also download this document and record your step manually and submit a copy weekly to Salidaraces@cityofsalida.com.  A complete log of steps must be turned in by Tuesday, May 30th at midnight to have at least one entry into the 10k-a-day raffle.

How do I win the competition?

To increase your chances of winning, you can enter your steps weekly to earn extra raffle entries! When you submit your form on Monday, you will earn an additional entry into the raffle if you average 10,000 or more steps for that week.

*Weekly steps will end every Sunday and must be tallied and submitted by the following Monday at midnight to receive additional entries.

  • Participation award - By just participating in this competition, you will receive one entry into the raffle.
  • Top Stepper award - The participant with the highest number of steps will win their name on the golden shoe trophy. This trophy will accumulate the names of winners over the years and counts as bragging rights until next year's challenge.

Prizes

Prizes will be given away from local companies in a drawing on June 3. You must provide proof of your steps before receiving your prize.   Prizes will be gift cards to local businesses.

If you are unable to provide proof of your step count, your prize will be redrawn. Proof will be accepted in the form of Screenshots or photos of your smartphone, smartwatch or other tracking devices. If it is a pedometer, please attach a timestamp to the photo. Daily tracking totals from your pedometer app or smartphone will also be accepted.
