The City of Salida and partners have a unique and exciting opportunity to ally with GOCO to build the Salida River Trail creating a 2.5 mile, non-motorized, public trail along the Arkansas River through the heart of Salida’s downtown and into surrounding residential districts and beyond. The Salida River Trail is located within Salida and on neighboring State lands within Chaffee County. Many years of planning have gone into this project and it is identified in numerous community documents; however until recently private properties have blocked river access to complete the project.
The Salida River Trail project includes building three trail sections connecting to the existing Salida Trail system. The completed trail will extend from Salida’s Historic Downtown and Creative District through residential neighborhoods to five City parks and CWP Sands and Frantz Lake Wildlife Areas. The Trail also runs along the Arkansas River accessing the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA) managed by CPW and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The Salida River Trail will provide safe, scenic trail access to these local parks and their amenities.
