On 07/29/2023 at 10:30 PM, both Salida Fire and Salida PD were dispatched to a fire, located at 610 Walnut St.
The fire started outside the residence along a wooden fence. The fence caught fire, causing the fire to spread to the
neighboring property. The fire began burning the neighboring trailer as Salida Fire arrived. By 10:36 PM the Fire
Department had water on the structure and the fire was extinguished by 10:40 PM.
Once the Fire was extinguished, Police and Fire personnel examined the area of the fire. It was determined to have
been started as a result of the negligence a person. Due to this, the Salida Police Department canvased the area.
Multiple witnesses were interviewed as well as the homeowner of 610 Walnut. The Police Department then
contacted CBI to obtain a Fire Investigator to process the scene.
The morning of 07/30/2023 a Fire Investigator arrived and processed the scene. The investigation concluded that
this was started as a result of the negligence of a person. At this time, the Salida Police Department is actively
investigating the case of Arson. We will continue to interview people in the coming days.
