The new Salida Skatepark is a result of a community effort spearheaded by the volunteer group, Friends of Salida Skateparks.  Composed of local skaters, bmx'ers, and park supporters of all ages including teens and adults, Friends of Salida Skateparks spent a year and a half building community support through grassroots fundraising.  With support from elected city officials and staff as well as volunteer work from FOSS, the city of Salida was awarded a $350,000 Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) grant in March, 2020 for construction of a new 14,000 square foot skatepark to be built in Centennial Park.  Six of the top skatepark builders in the United States submitted bids for the project.  In the end, an interview committee composed of skatepark volunteers and city staff hired Grindline Skateparks out of Seattle, WA as the designer/builder for the new park.  Construction began in late November, 2020.  Friends of Salida Skateparks donated $25,000 towards the design and construction costs and the Tony Hawk foundation award $10,000 to  the City of Salida for the completin of the project as well.
