Mountain Heritage Park

Three new interpretive signs at Mountain Heritage Park

Mountain Heritage Park (MHP), located near the top of Tenderfoot (“S”) Mountain along Spiral Drive, celebrates the rich cultural and natural history of Salida's mountain heritage and is a gathering place for rest, reflection, and connection. With commanding views of two distinct mountain ranges that have shaped the history and culture of Salida and south-central Colorado for generations, MHP helps tell the story of Salida's mountain history.

MHP is an initiative of the Chipeta Mountain Project (CMP), in partnership with the City of Salida. CMP is a local all-volunteer non-profit group that organized and hosted the Chipeta Rising Celebration in October 2017. The MHP project was formally sponsored by GARNA and has the support of all key community stakeholders, the public, and local trail and park organizations.

The park features a central kiosk with three interpretive "peak view pavilions" with information panels describing the mountains visible from the park. With vehicle and human-powered access, MHP can be enjoyed by folks of all abilities.

This park was funded by Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO), the City of Salida Parks and Recreation Department and the Chipeta Mountain Project which also managed the construction and installation of the park. Contributing to the financial support have been donations from businesses and individuals in the community, as well as significant amounts of in-kind donations and volunteer labor.
