Get Ready to Skate

Construction workers complete concrete work on Salida's new skatepark

Join the City of Salida and Friends of Salida Skateparks at the official opening of the new Salida Skatepark on Saturday, August 21, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at 410 W. Rainbow Dr. There will be open skating for all ages, abilities and disciplines and a free community BBQ following the ribbon cutting. Burgers and hot dogs will be served while supplies last.

Spearheaded by Friends of Salida Skateparks (FOSS), a community volunteer group composed of local skaters, BMXers, and park supporters of all ages, FOSS spent a year and a half building community support through grassroots fundraising. With the backing from elected city officials and staff as well as volunteer work from FOSS, the City of Salida was awarded a $350,000 Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) grant in March 2020 and a $10,000 grant from The Skatepark Project (formerly The Tony Hawk Foundation) for construction of the new 14,000 square foot skatepark. FOSS will be donating $25,000 towards the design and construction costs to the City of Salida at the Grand Opening.

Additional amenities are being considered for Phase 2 of the skatepark project, and donations can be made online through coloradogirl72@gmail.com. Other Centennial Park construction projects by the City of Salida are expected to be completed in spring 2022.
