Bump, Set and Spike at Centennial Park

Blue and yellow beach volleyball in the sand

Salida Parks and Recreation is happy to announce the opening of the City’s new sand volleyball courts at Centennial Park. The courts will officially open for play in the afternoon on Friday, Aug. 6, just in time for the Men’s and Women’s Olympic gold medal volleyball matches on Saturday, Aug. 7.

The two new regulation and professional level courts replace one undersized and failing court that was removed to build the new skatepark. The new courts include Volleyball USA nets, boundaries and hardware. The nets are adjustable for adult and youth matches. The sand is a fine “beach” sand and is approved for sand volleyball play. All other equipment will need to be provided by the users.

The courts are available for open play during park hours from 6 a.m. – 10 p.m. The Department is looking into developing a league for next summer. Anyone interested in being a lead in organizing, recruiting and managing any level of volleyball league play is welcome to contact the Recreation Supervisor at recreationsupervisor@cityofsalida.com.

The Chaffee County Amateur Hockey Association is in the proposal stage for a new ice rink in this location as well. The sand volleyball infrastructure will be removed seasonally and will be a great compliment for non-winter ice rink use.
