Serve Salida on City Council or as Mayor

On November 2, voters will elect a Mayor to a two-year term and three City Council members from the three wards to four-year terms. These positions are all nonpartisan. City council seats include one representative from each of the three council wards.

To be eligible to run for elected office in Salida, candidates must:

  • Be a citizen of the United States.
  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Be currently registered to vote.
  • Be a resident of the City Ward or of a territory annexed to that ward for at least 12 months prior to the November election if running for a council seat.
  • Be a resident of the City of Salida or of a territory annexed to the City for at least 12 months prior to the November election if running for mayor.

How to Apply

Each candidate must be nominated by a petition signed by at least 25 registered electors residing within the municipality, or the ward, from which the applicant is to be elected. The mayor’s position is elected at large. The petitioning process began August 3. Only petitions obtained from the City Clerk’s office may be circulated.

Your petition, complete with signatures, including the Circulator and Acceptance of Nomination Affidavits, must be signed and notarized. Then, they must be returned in person to the City Clerk’s office, 448 East First Street, Suite 112, Salida, CO 81201, no later than August 23 at 4:00 p.m.  It is highly suggested to have more than the minimum of twenty-five signatures as it is possible that not all signatures will qualify.

This election will be a mail-ballot election coordinated with Chaffee County. Ballots will arrive at households in mid-October. Visit govotecolorado.com to register to vote, confirm your voter registration is active and your mailing address is current.
