Help Build a Bright Future for Salida

A new community survey, launching today, January 9, asks residents important questions about affordable housing and changing Salida's form of government from a Statutory Rule system to a Home Rule system. Salida's city council members and staff want to know your opinion, and your responses will help shape future city decisions. The survey closes on Monday, January 23.

2022 Post-Election Questions

As you may remember, this past November, Salida voters voted on four different ballot measures related to affordable housing. Three of the ballot measures, 2A, 2B, and 2D, were for the City of Salida, and the fourth measure, 6A, was for the Chaffee Housing Authority.

Salida Ballot Issues 2A and 2B passed, while Salida Ballot Question 2D and Chaffee County Ballot Issue 6A failed. Therefore, the City is interested in hearing the opinions of residents about local affordable housing plans and initiatives.

Home Rule Questions

The City of Salida is currently a Statutory Rule city. Statutory cities and towns are limited to exercising powers that are granted by the state and are subject to provisions and limitations imposed by the state. Home Rule allows local municipalities to make legislation relevant to their areas, exercising control over “local concern” issues while minimizing state intervention in municipal affairs.

Take the Survey

There are several ways residents may take the survey through the closing date of Monday, January 23.

  1. Take the survey online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Salida_PE22_LIVE
  2. Some residents will receive a text message on their cell phones or electronic devices on the afternoon of Monday, January 9, inviting them to participate in the survey. The text will have the city logo at the top.
