Energy Action Plan Aims to Reduce Carbon Emissions by 50% by 2030

In 2022, the City of Salida began working with Xcel Energy’s Partners in Energy to create an Energy Action Plan. Over nine months, community stakeholders participated in three workshops to define the City’s energy vision and goals and identify strategies to achieve those goals. The Energy Action Plan on the City’s Sustainability Page aligns with and supports Salida’s Climate Action Plan by establishing targets and strategies in three focus areas: energy supply, residential energy and commercial energy. Implementing the Energy Action Plan strategies will contribute to achieving the City’s goal of reducing energy-related carbon emissions.

At their August 1, 2023, meeting, the City Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Xcel Energy for continued collaboration to implement the Energy Action Plan strategies over the next 18 months. Moving forward, the City’s Sustainability Committee will act as the Energy Action Team, reviewing progress and supporting community energy-saving action.

“As part of the Partners in Energy program, Xcel Energy is proud to collaborate with the City of Salida and community members to use energy more efficiently and meet sustainability goals. Working together towards a clean energy future, our efforts can affect the lives of others for generations to come,” says Ashley Valdez, Xcel Energy Area Manager Community and Local Government Affairs.
