In the spring of 2018, the City of Salida reached out to Community Builders and applied for assistance to develop a community-driven vision and plan for the Highway 50 corridor. Once the City’s request was approved, Community Builders and the City worked together to build a process that puts the community in the driver’s seat.
Future 50 is directed by a Community Leadership Committee (CLC) made up of 30 leaders from across the Salida community. A Project Management Team (PMT) consisting of representatives from the City of Salida, Chaffee County, and community members who are tasked with the day-to-day management of the project, with assistance from Community Builders.
In November we held the Future 50 Design Workshop which was a three day work session that built on the community engagement efforts throughout summer and fall 2018. The workshop brought together traffic/ transportation consultants, economic development consultants, and architectural consultants to explore strategies and design concepts for achieving the community goals for Highway 50. Each evening of the 3 day workshop culminated in a Public Open House sharing the work from the day.

Business 1-on-1 Meetings
Project leaders will schedule individual 1-on-1 meetings with business owners as well as conduct door-to-door drop ins to discuss ideas from the project, receive feedback, and refine concepts. These meetings will primarily focus on business and property owners in the Uptown District area. Highway 50 business and property owners, especially those in the Uptown District, are invited to a focus-group meeting to discuss ideas from the project, receive feedback, and refine concepts in a group setting.
