The Denver & Rio Grande Western Hospital is the last surviving structure in Salida that was constructed by the railroad. The structure at 448 E. With the economic downturn, we have seen a decrease in building permit and current planning applications. This reprieve has allowed the staff of the Community Development Department a much needed opportunity to catch up on some long-range projects for the City.

A notice of the unsafe conditions means that the building has serious life, health and safety issues but at this time the conditions outside the building do not pose an immediate risk to the general public or neighboring properties.

The Salida City Hall, Police Department, Council Chambers and Municipal Court are now located in the Touber Building at 448 East First Street (the old hospital).
