Western State Colorado University will offer conversational Spanish classes October 24, 25 & 26 in Salida. The course, Conversational Spanish, is designed for teachers, business leaders, and community members who desire an effective introduction to the Spanish language.
Earlier this year, Western State Colorado University Extended Studies worked with the Economic Development Corporation of Chaffee County to determine possible professional development needs within your area. From the survey conducted, Extended Studies recognized a need for more Conversational Spanish education to help teachers, business leaders, and community members improve working relationships in their current jobs. Western State Colorado University Extended Studies is responding to this need by offering an intensive 3-day weekend training.
This three day intensive Spanish weekend will be taught by a renowned Summer Teacher Institute instructor, Karen Immerso. She has a master’s degree in Experiential Education from the University of Colorado at Boulder and her experience includes many years of Spanish language study and international travel. The course, Conversational Spanish, meets many learning styles by using activities and conversation that introduces and presents the Spanish language at a basic level. This interactive approach to speaking Spanish can be applied in the classroom, the workplace, or the community as you participate in community involvement, and during interactions with native Spanish speakers. Students can expect to improve their spoken Spanish skills and augment vocabulary to enhance listening and comprehension skills in an interactive learning environment.
Students with a master’s degree have the option to register for this course and earn one graduate credit. The cost of the course with one graduate credit is $205. Students may also register for this class as a non-credit student and earn a Continuing Education Unit (CEU) for $140. A CEU is a nationally recognized method of quantifying the time spent in the classroom during professional development and training activities. A CEU will appear on a Western transcript, but is not college-credit bearing. Conversational Spanish is scheduled for Friday, October 24, 6-9pm, Saturday, October 25, 8am-5pm, and Sunday, October 26, 8am-noon at the Horizons Exploratory Academy in Salida.
