Help Salida kickoff its Energy Focus Plan at the Earth Day Party April 19!

The City of Salida Energy Focus plan will kickoff at the Earth Day Party Saturday, April 19, 2014, which is 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Riverside Park. The kickoff for the Energy Focus plan will feature giveaways from Xcel Energy and Atmos Energy, the local energy companies that serve Salida. Atmos Energy will be grilling up hamburgers and hotdogs for all in attendance. Also in attendance will be Upper Arkansas Area Council of Government (UAACOG) representatives to explain their home improvement loan programs and other related opportunities. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about money and energy saving opportunities available in Chaffee County right now.

There will also be fun and entertainment for all ages. From 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. “Colorado Gators Reptile Park” from Mosca in the San Luis Valley will take the stage with live alligators and reptiles. After their presentation, there will be other exhibits including a watershed exploration with CSU Extension; recycled sculptures with Salida Recreation; a geology touch table by Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA) volunteer naturalist Bob Hickey; animal skulls, pelts and tracks presented by the Greater Arkansas River Nature Association (GARNA); and Guidestone’s “Wonderful Worms.”

These events are co-sponsored by The City of Salida and Salida Recreation, Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area, and the Greater Arkansas River Nature Association.

Electronic recycling will NOT be offered this year as it has in the past. The Chaffee County Landfill does accept electronic items, which are no longer allowed in the landfill, for a recycling fee. Fees can be found at: Look for future special recycling events to be offered by the City of Salida.
