Joseph McKeever, 41 year-old Salida-area resident, remains in critical condition at St. Anthony Hospital in Denver after being shot in the stomach by 67 year-old Salida resident Edward Cadugan Little Wolf near the 200 block of G Street September 10.
Salida Police arrested Little Wolf on charges of second-degree assault, a Class 3 felony; menacing, a Class 5 felony; reckless endangerment, a Class 2 misdemeanor. He is being held in the Chaffee County Detention Center in lieu of $20,000 bail. Terry Clark, police chief, said charges are still being reviewed by Salida Police and the 11th Judicial District.
Little Wolf shot McKeever with a .380-caliber handgun.
Clark said a Safeway employee encountered McKeever searching through the grocery store’s dumpster. A physical altercation ensued between the employee and McKeever. A third party, Little Wolf, then came to assist the Safeway employee.
Clark said McKeever walked across the Safeway parking lot, G Street and was at the alley near Chaffee County Title. Following a verbal altercation, Little Wolf walked toward McKeever and fired at least one round at McKeever. After being shot, McKeever made his way into the lobby of Chaffee County Title at 225 G Street.
Salida Police responded first to the scene. Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, Salida Fire and Chaffee County Emergency Medical Services also responded to the scene.
