Incident on G Street

A 41 year-old man is in critical condition after being shot in the stomach by a 67 year-old Salida resident near the 200 block of G Street at approximately 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 10.

Salida Police Chief Terry Clark said a Safeway employee encountered a man (victim) searching through the grocery store’s dumpster. A physical altercation ensued between the employee and victim. A third party (subject) then came to assist the Safeway employee.

Clark said the victim walked across the Safeway parking lot, G Street and was at the alley near Chaffee County Title. Following a verbal altercation, the subject walked toward the victim and fired at least one shot at the victim. After being shot, the victim made his way into the lobby of Chaffee County Title at 225 G Street.

The victim was transported to the Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center and is in critical condition. The subject did not resist arrest and was taken into custody by Salida Police Officers.

Salida Police responded first to the scene. Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, Salida Fire and Chaffee County Emergency Medical Services also responded to the scene.

Clark said the victim and subject’s names will be released upon notification of family members. Charges are being reviewed by Salida Police and the 11th Judicial District’s Office.
