The Salida Fire Department will be driving the fire truck fleet around town this evening to collect donations for Sunday’s fireworks show. They will start the donation drive at 6:00pm tonight, Friday August 30. The trucks will be lit up and moving slowly; Firefighters will have boots to collect the donations and will be walking alongside the trucks. If the firefighters miss anyone that would like to donate, Chief Bess will be at the station and can be reached at 539-2212. He will direct a truck to go back to your location. Alternatively, donations can be dropped off at the firehouse, 124 E St, City Hall, 448 E 1st St., or at the multitude of collection cans around town.
In addition to the Fireworks show that will take place during the Hometown Picnic at approximately 8:45pm on Sunday, September 1, the 1911 Kissel Fire Truck will be on display at the corner of F & Sackett. The Salida Fire Department will be collecting donations that will go towards restoration of the truck. The Fire Department needs to raise between $8,000 and $12,000 to reach the matching funds in order to have the truck restored and become a local historic landmark.
