Pool Closure and Recreation Events

Salida Hot Springs Pool closed May 6 to May 11

Spring cleaning is going to be in full swing at the Salida Hot Springs pool from Monday, May 6 until Saturday, May 11. The pool is closed twice each year to ensure a proper deep cleaning and to make necessary repairs.

During this week, we drain the pool and power wash the decks, pool and locker rooms. At the same time, we shut down the mechanical system, take apart the chlorinators to clean and reinstall them, clean out the sand filtration tanks, and rake the sand (in the tanks). We also do preventative maintenance on pumps as needed.

The lines, strikers and depth markers are painted or touched up in the pool, underwater lights are replaced as needed, and  burned out overhead lights are replaced. Locker rooms get a deep cleaning and the paint on the floors and walls is touched up. Kickboards and pull buoys are cleaned and sanitized.

Patio furniture is cleaned and prepped for the summer season, benches and picnic tables are painted, landscaping is pruned and plants are planted.  Storage rooms, the laundry room, staff kitchen, staff changing rooms and office spaces get a deep clean as well.

Many question the need for our closures and for the amount of time we are closed. With the amount of time that it takes to get the pools emptied, power washed, lines repainted, re-filled and chemicals balanced in time to re-open, a full week is absolutely necessary. We assure you that we are working fast and furiously to get these and many other chores done in the allotted time and sincerely thank our valued customers for their patience with our closures.

Don’t miss out on Salida Rec’s upcoming events!

We’ve got a fun, new program called “Wine and Watercolors” that will be offered Thursday, May 9, from 6-8 p.m. in the SteamPlant Ballroom. This is great for all skill levels so bring a friend or two and try your hand at creating a painting while enjoying a glass of wine and light appetizers. The cost of the program is $20 and this includes all supplies and paper that will be needed. Register by calling 539-6738 or stop by the pool.

Bike-to-Work Day is Friday, May 17th. If you already ride your bike to work or if you are planning to start riding, this is a fun way to get into the habit. Meet others who ride, challenge a friend to ride with you, or just try riding to see if you like it. Stop by the Salida Hot Springs Pool or the SteamPlant courtyard on your way to work to celebrate pedal powered transportation! We’ll have coffee, bagels and fruit to fuel your day. There will be giveaways and prizes. Light mechanic work will be available.
