Get Connected – Ways to Engage and Receive City Information

David Alston, the founder of a top sales and marketing company once said, “Social media is not a media. The key is to listen, engage and build relationships.” At the City, we’re making daily strides to improve our communication with the public using both traditional and digital platforms.

In addition to the City’s official website, www.cityofsalida.com, we’ve had an official Facebook page to post City news and updates for almost a year now, and last week the City added an official Twitter page to reach out to Twitter users and news outlets.

We will use the social media pages to update citizens and the public on upcoming events and news in the community as well as any emergency information should a situation occur.

It will be a goal of the city to post at least once a day so that the sites may be a one-stop shop for any community and City related news, and to keep the public informed about what is going on in the City. We want to encourage citizens to stay involved and remain active and engaged in the beautiful community we share and are lucky to call home.

In addition, we’ll continue to update and provide information to the public via the City’s official web page. On the City website is a place where you can enter your e-mail to get news and information regarding City events and meetings, including City Council meeting agendas and packets. You will receive a periodic e-mail with links to the latest posts on the City website.

Further, on the right side on the page is a link to the City of Salida calendar, which is updated to reflect current meeting dates and times.

If you are not already a Twitter user, create an account at the www.twitter.com homepage following a few simple steps. Twitter works by showing posts of other Twitter users that you “Follow,” which then show up on your Twitter “Feed”—similar to the newsfeed you see on your Facebook home page. The City of Salida Twitter handle is @cityofsalida. Use our Twitter handle to mention the city or ask a question.

If you have a Facebook post suggestion for the City of Salida, feel free to send a message to our Facebook page account. For Twitter, when you mention the City of Salida on Twitter (using @cityofsalida in your tweet) a city staff member will review the question, suggestion or comment and get back to you on Twitter as quickly as possible.

The reasoning behind the expansion of social media is to reach out to a wider network of citizens and the public and to provide tools for citizens to engage in civil dialogue. The hope is that all citizens will stay informed and up to date on community news and will be encouraged to engage in the community and become an active participant in city affairs.

We continue to post all city meetings and other public notices on our bulletin boards located at the Touber Building, including one at City Hall and another outside of the Touber Building at the City Council Chambers entrance.
