Notice of a Special Municipal Election



Pursuant to Colorado Revised Statutes, §31-2-204(2), notice is hereby given of a Special Municipal Election of the City of Salida, to be held on January 15, 2013.  This election will be conducted by mail.

At said election, the electors of the City shall vote upon the following question:

Shall the City of Salida form a home rule charter commission?

At said election, the electors of the City shall also elect a total of eleven (11) members to the charter commission, to take office if the formation of the charter commission is approved by the electors.  The names of persons nominated are as follows:

Persons possessing the following qualifications are entitled to vote in said election:  (1) attainment of the age of eighteen (18) years; (2) a citizen of the United States; (3) residence in the State of Colorado and in the City of Salida for thirty (30) days immediately preceding the election; and (4) registered to vote pursuant to the Colorado Municipal Election Code of 1965.

Persons desiring to vote in the January 15, 2013 Special Municipal Election and have not registered to vote, must do so by Monday, December 17. If you voted in the November 6, 2012 general election, you are registered to vote. Persons may register to vote at the Chaffee County Clerk’s office, 104 Crestone Avenue, Salida. You may update your voter information anytime at

Ballots will be mailed December 24-28, 2012.  Ballots will be available at City Hall beginning December 26, 2012.

All completed ballots must be received in the Deputy City Clerk’s office by 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, to be counted.  Returned envelopes containing ballots must bear the signature of the voter.  Completed ballots must be returned by either:

(1)   affixing first-class postage and mailing the ballot in the pre-addressed ballot return envelope; or

(2)   delivering the ballot in its completed return envelope to the Deputy City Clerk’s office in City Hall, 448 East First Street, Suite 112, Salida, CO 81201.
