Come learn about economic development, jobs, and the Chaffee County economy

Chaffee County undergoes an assessment approximately every five years to determine economic development projects and priorities. The Southern Colorado Economic Development District (SCEDDS), which is a part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, is required to formulate a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy for each of the twelve counties within the District.

The process, known as the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS), will be conducted in two community meetings. The community meetings will be held in Salida on November 11 at the Salida Steam Plant Riverside Annex and in Buena Vista on November 15 at the Sangre De Cristo Electric Community Room. Both meetings begin at 6:00 p.m. and will last no more than two hours. Light refreshments will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m.

These meetings are critical for federal funding of major projects and therefore community participation is vital. The meetings will also provide some of the latest demographic and economic data regarding Chaffee County.  Handheld devices will be used to collect answers to a series of questions during the presentation. The responses are anonymous and only aggregate data will be collected from the community. The meetings are being co-sponsored by the Chaffee County Economic Development Corporation. The mission of the Corporation is “To retain, expand, and create jobs, and to assure that Chaffee County is open for business.”  For additional information, please contact Wendell Pryor, Director or Jeff Post, Chair of the Corporation.
