Recreation Department Activities Enrich and Empower Lives in the Community

Spring always brings a feeling of renewal and new growth and the Recreation Department is no exception to that. Spring is the perfect time to do a deep cleaning of the aquatics center and perform some seasonal and annual maintenance projects. We will close for two weeks beginning May 3 and remain closed until May 15. When we re-open the renewal begins with new programs and activities, an updated web site, new programs in the spring and summer recreation guide, and the delivery of much anticipated hotter water to the Hot Springs Pools.

The water line project is nearly complete and the water is flowing into the building at a temperature approximately 7˚ warmer than this time last year. This is a sure sign that the replacement of two segments of the water line with insulated pipe is doing the job we had all hoped. Come renew yourself by soaking in the healing waters. The water from the springs contains; Silica, Aluminum Iron Oxide, Sulphate, Calcium, Bicarbonate, Potassium, Chloride, and Sodium. Check our website for detailed information www.salidapool.com.

This spring and summer, the recreation department is focusing on quality programming in the services we provide. While safety remains our number one concern, we also want to be sure that you are having fun participating in one of our programs, enjoying a special event or activity, or swimming in the hot springs pool.

In the pages of the Spring and Summer Recreation Guide, you will find diverse programs that get you moving, start you thinking and introduce you to new activities. Refresh your mind and your body this year by committing to get outdoors and participate in all that Salida and the surrounding areas have to offer. People who spend time outdoors are more creative, get better grades in school and live longer.

Our programs and classes provide a welcoming atmosphere with trained instructors. We teach life skills, challenge you to learn something new, and create a supportive environment to stimulate your body and mind.

To help us better understand what the community wants for its recreation department, we hosted an open house to get feedback on events and activities you would like to see, we have located a comment box in the lobby of the hot springs pool and we have added direct email addresses to our key staff, on our website, www.salidarec.com. Of course feel free to call or stop by to visit with our friendly staff at any time. We welcome your comments.

What’s new for 2010? Hershey’s Track and Field meet, tumbling classes, llama trips, sports camps, art classes and open gym time. What’s back? Swim lessons, Moonlight Movies, Park and Pool, Pre-School Parks, the Tenderfoot Mountain Du/Triathlon, plus many more. Please remember to register early as programs have minimums and maximums. We would hate to cancel a program or have to tell you it is full and have you miss out on the fun.

We have had several requests to bring back the six month pass, consider that accomplished. Six month passes are now on sale, call the front desk for more information. Other changes include a $9.00 military rate for public swim, and Budget Passes will have an expiration of one year from date of purchase, with 15 visits instead of 20. The discounted price with the budget pass will remain the same ($5.00 for adults, $2.50 for youth, and $4.00 for seniors).

To get the summer fun season off on to a great start the Hot Springs Pool will host a free school is out swim day, May 21, complete with food, games, entertainment and fun. Check our website or call the front desk for more information (719-539-6738).

Enjoy!
