The Salida Police Department offers the following programs to the public:
YOUTH FINGERPRINTING (Provided in the schools)
November
- The Salida Police Department recommends parents keep a personal file containing personal identification information relating to their child.
- Information needs to be updated yearly; height, weight, current photograph
- New students Kindergarten through Fourth Grade
- Parental permission must be obtained prior to fingerprinting
- Officer goes to each school.
- Make up day in December for those students that missed
- Salida Police Department DOES NOT hold any information or fingerprints that are given.
- Fingerprint card and instructions for obtaining DNA samples will be given to the student to take home.
HALLOWEEN SAFETY (Provided in the schools)
October
- Last week of October
- Officer scheduled to present Halloween Safety Program on:
- Costumes
- Candy
- Walking
- Being seen
- Halloween Safety Bags are provided by local businesses.

SHOP WITH A COP
December
- Fourth Grade students
- Half from Buena Vista
- Half from Salida
- Children are chosen by recommendation from teachers,
- Based on need and/or character
- Students are given $100 each to purchase gifts for their family.
- A success due to local business donations:
