On May 2, 2017 36 people were displaced from an apartment building located at 108 D Street after local officials discovered many health, safety and welfare issues while investigating a report of a gas odor on the premises. One of the displaced households has found a permanent housing solution and others have found temporary housing. There are still 3 households that are unable to find suitable housing.
The remaining displaced families are staying at a local motel, which has been funded by local organizations, government agencies and by donations. In addition, local agencies have been assisting these families in finding resources and assistance to find and fund long-term housing. Available long-term housing is currently the most important need for the remaining displaced families.
Financial assistance is still needed for the displaced families to secure ongoing short-term housing, moving costs and other basic provisions. Assistance funds may be deposited at High Country Bank. High Country Bank is located at 7360 West Highway 50 and at 130 West 2nd Street in Salida, Co. Checks should be made payable to: “CCDHS Assistance Fund” and “D-Street Residents” should be written in the memo line.
