The Salida Scout Hut will be closed beginning on April 17, 2017 and is expected to remain closed for the remainder of the year while renovation work is completed. Renovations will include new electrical, plumbing, additional restrooms, a catering kitchen, additional deck space and many more features.
This closure also includes the public restrooms located at the Scout hut. There will be portable facilities available as well as the public restrooms adjacent to the Boat Ramp. Adjacent trails will remain open while this renovation project is in progress.
The Colorado Department of Local Affairs awarded a grant in the amount of $306,900 to the City of Salida to go toward the renovation of the Scout Hut in Riverside Park. The estimated cost to renovate the Scout Hut is a total of $620,000, $209,000 of which will be the City’s contribution. The remaining $100,000 has been acquired through fund raising efforts by the Salida Rotary Club and the Salida Sunrise Rotary Club.
The Salida Scout Hut was built in 1949 by the Salida Elks and serves as a meeting place for the Scouts as well as a community hall until the late 1980’s when it was donated to the City. This community facility is used by local and regional scout troops, city recreation programs, and public rentals for weddings and other events.
