The City of Salida maintains four frost gauges around town due to water meters freezing in the past. The meters are located at the Salida Rec Center, Touber Building, Public Works Department and across from the Water Treatment Plant. The City is conducting this monitoring in order to better understand at what level frost becomes a problem in relation to freezing water meters.
Today, Wednesday, February 5, 2014 the frost depth average was up 1 inch again to 19.25 inches. This winter there have been 6 frozen meter occurrences. Last week’s average was 18.25; the week before was 17.25. Previous weeks: 17.13 inches, 16 inches, 14.38 inches, 12.8 inches, 15 inches, 10.5 inches, 3 inches and the first week the frost gauges were checked (11/25/13) frost depth was at 1 inch.
