The City of Salida will hold a public meeting on the Creative District on October 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the SteamPlant Ballroom. The public is invited to attend to learn what has been going on since receiving the designation and provide input for the future of the district.
Salida hosted the initial meeting of creative districts in May where staff learned about the resources available to creative districts. A list of professionals, whose work is paid for by the State, was provided to the districts. From this list Marcie Erion was selected to initially assist Salida’s Creative District in planning for the future. Erion will facilitate the initial public meeting.
Erion currently works for the City of Loveland as the Business Development Specialist for the Office of Creative Sector Development. In her position in Loveland she works to promote creative jobs, education, marketing and infrastructure. She focuses on retention and expansion within the creative workforce, helps to guide the local school district arts integrated curriculum, has built a website and Microsoft tag program to market Loveland and has developed partnerships to build new creative capital projects.
The plan for the meeting on October 24 is to review the mission and vision outlined in the creative district application and gather input from those in attendance. Stakeholders will be asked to identify assets that can be leveraged to assist with development of the district. Key issues that could impact future development will also be discussed. Finally, priorities will be identified that should be a part of the strategic plan.
A steering committee will be formed to continue with the strategic planning process and will meet over the next few months to develop a plan for the future of Salida’s Creative District.
Everyone with an interest in Salida’s Creative District is encouraged to attend this important meeting for the future of our community.
