South Central All Hazards Region and Chaffee County Office of Emergency Management are hosting a training exercise on September 28, 2012 at the Buena Vista Rodeo Grounds from 9:00am-5:00pm. Gregg Drive will remain open during the training exercise, but traffic could minimally be impacted in the area. The hands-on scenario based training is designed to enhance critical skills that responders use in managing catastrophic events.
The local emergency responders invited to participate in this realistic exercise include Buena Vista Police Department, Buena Vista Fire Department, Buena Vista Correctional Complex, Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center, Colorado State Patrol, Salida Fire, Salida Police Department, Chaffee County Fire, Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office both patrol and dispatch, Chaffee County EMS, and the Chaffee County Incident Information Team. Other local agencies participating include the Town of Buena Vista, Buena Vista Public works, Chaffee County Road & Bridge, Buena Vista and Salida School Districts. Other regional resources from surrounding counties will also participate.
While there will be emergency vehicles traveling on the roadways to and from the exercise site, emergency personnel involved in the exercise will not be responding emergent and no lights and sirens will be used. We thank the community for their patience during this time and encourage any questions or comments to be directed to Lisa Ortega of the Chaffee County Office of Emergency Management at 719-539-6856.
