Angel of Shavano Recycling will replace collection containers behind the Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center Tuesday, August 28. While recycling operations will continue Tuesday, the City recommends not recycling that day in order to make for a smooth transition. All Upper Arkansas Area Council of Governments recycling containers will be removed by August 31.
Overall, there will be a reduction in the number of recycling containers at the site because new containers will be larger, and Angel of Shavano will conduct more frequent pick-ups.
The City of Salida approved an intergovernmental agreement with Chaffee County regarding recycling services July 17. Mickey Barry of Angel of Shavano Recycling has agreed to pay out five percent of the annual gross sales revenue from materials collected in the County to the County. The County will then distribute the share back to participating municipalities, including Salida.
Dara MacDonald, city administrator, said the recycling containers will remain in the same area behind the Hot Springs Aquatic Center while the City evaluates new recycling patterns and determines what direction the City is headed in regards to the Centennial Park Master Plan.
