A two-inch natural gas line was struck by a contractor near 7595 W U.S. 50 this afternoon. Brian Martens, Atmos Energy public affairs manager, said Salida Fire and Police Department as well as Atmos Energy personnel responded, closed traffic in the area, and repaired the leak. Traffic has since been reopened.
Approximately 35 to 50 Atmos Energy customers in the Rex Circle area have been affected. Atmos personnel are working on getting natural gas service back to those customers. Martens said customers should be fully connected by “early evening.”
Chaffee County Sheriff’s Department as well as Chaffee County EMS also responded to the scene.
