Now that election season is upon us the City would like to remind citizens to be mindful of the placement of election related signs. Election signs may be displayed on private property but are not allowed in the public right-of-way. Remember that in the City of Salida, private property begins on the house side of the sidewalk. Political signs may not be posted on public property including the area between the sidewalk and the street, on utility poles along the streets or in public parks.
In residential areas of the City each dwelling is allowed up to 18 square feet of sign area during the election season to express opinions concerning candidates, ballot issues, and ideological positions. Election signs may be displayed beginning ninety (90) days prior to the election and must be removed within fifteen (15) days following the election.
