Does Salida have watering restrictions?

The following water restrictions are voluntary for the 2011 irrigation season.

Beginning April 15th and running through October 15th outside watering between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm is discouraged. Watering during the heat of the day is less efficient than at cooler times. You will lose up to 50% of the water to evaporation watering in the middle of the day.

The even, odd watering days are encouraged to ensure adequate water pressure and supplies of treated water through the plant, which has limited capacity. This means if the last number of your street address ends in an even number you may water on even numbered calendar days. If the last number of your address ends in an odd number you may water on odd numbered calendar days.

On the 31st day of the month any outside watering is discouraged.

Watering restrictions apply to all Salida water customers, both within and outside of the incorporated area.

This year is a trial period for voluntary water restrictions. Should demands become too great for the treatment plant or we receive an increased number of low water pressure complaints, then water restrictions could again become mandatory and enforceable.

According to Salida Municipal Code §13-3-90, the Mayor and City Administrator are authorized to impose whatever mandatory restrictions and regulations limiting lawn and landscape irrigation as necessary to protect the City’s treated water system. Such restrictions could include a total curtailment of outdoor irrigation and other external treated water uses.

In the event of severe drought conditions, mandatory water conservation measures will also apply.

Customers with new landscaping no longer need to apply to the City Administrator for an exemption of all or part of the watering restrictions. This requirement is not applicable since retrictions are now voluntary.
